Black Panther, Vol. 1 by Ta-Nehisi Coates

It’s winter in America! For more than 70 years, Captain America has stood in stalwart defense of our country and its people. Even if they do a big reveal later that this is 2,000 years in OUR future, it still won't make sense.especially when the comic is pretty explicit about the Wakandan Empire fleeing Earth 2,000 years before NOW.Collects Captain America (2018) #1-6 and material from Free Comic Book Day 2018 (Avengers/Captain America).

I really wish Christopher Priest were the one writing this, though I understand why he refuses. for escaped slaves, which would work fine if not for the fact that this comic establishes that the Wakandan Empire LEFT EARTH FOR SPACE TWO THOUSAND YEARS AGO & has not had contact with Earth in all that time! Also, why did that one alien have an Islamic Arabic name? Arabic wasn't spoken in Wakanda, and they didn't follow Islam, especially not TWO THOUSAND YEARS AGO - and it makes even less sense for an alien to have that name! I'm intrigued by the good, but i'm sensing a lot of Coates' typical narrative ineptitude. Also, why are the rebel soldiers called 'Maroons'? It's a term that developed on Earth in the American South & West Indies in the late-18th/early-19th century C.E.

Does Coates not remember that Storm & T'Challa are divorced? Nor that they're not on especially good terms? Because that fact makes the whole 'he repeatedly dreams of Ororo begging for him to come home' trope pretty meaningless - though it does explain why he depicted them so amazingly out-of-character in 'Black Panther & The Crew'.

And there's a lot of stuff which will clearly be explained in future issues, but there's also other stuff that just doesn't make sense. Meyer of the 'Diversity & Comics' YouTube channel! It's a shame that Coates is a racist & a legitimately hateful person, but I'm glad he's making up for his craptacular previous run on this character by making an epic space opera! #movetheneedle Read because it was effusively recommended by Richard C.
